Since in Costa Rica all the hotels were bad, I decided to write a post about the worst hotels according to different categories. They were all pathetic in every way, but here are the ones that stood out.
The most decadent
In this category, the winner is the Buena Suerte Bed & Breakfast of Cahuita. It is a nasty hostel. The garden is nice, but the rooms are horrible. They tried to give it a curious touch by decorating each room with animal motifs, but it turned out very ugly.
The room had furniture from over 50 years ago, very old sheets, poor lighting, just a ceiling fan that made noise as if it was going to explode. The bathroom was the worst, it looked like a prison and had no ventilation or natural light. The water heater also sounded like it was going to explode. Also, as in all hotels in Costa Rica, the Wi-Fi never worked.
The shared kitchen, even more depressing.
I left a good review as I liked the attention of the owner, but his response was totally stupid, so I regretted giving it a 4.

Worst hospitality
The competition was tight since there is no hospitality in Costa Rica. But Las Cotingas Lodge in Drake Bay wins by far. When we arrived, a guy was waiting for us on the beach and helped us with one of the backpacks to the hotel that was on top of a mountain.
The guy was nice at first to try to sell us tours and the owner who checked us in told us “Welcome”, but with a sour face that made us feel anything but welcome. When they realized that we were not going to hire any tour, the little sympathy disappeared.
They gave us the key to the room, and we never heard from anyone again. I asked the owner’s wife for more hangers, and she gave me only 2 miserable hangers with a disgusted face. The owner owed us 2,000 colones because he had no change when we arrived and never gave us the money back. Also, he disappeared for the rest of our stay, so there was no one to ask.
When we left, there was no one to take the key.

Worst location
After staying at the disgusting Hostel La Posada, we went to Quepos with high expectations as the accommodation looked good in the photos.
When we were on our way to Vista del Pacífico in Quepos, the property manager insisted that we took a taxi since we had to climb quite a steep 1Km. Upon arrival, we were met halfway by the husband of the owner who did us the favor of taking us to the accommodation.
The apartment was not remotely what it looked like in the photos, the floor was disgusting, and it was never cleaned during our stay. The truth is that it failed in everything, but the worst thing was the location, because we had to go up and down the mountain every day; at night, there was no lighting.
Also, in Quepos there is nothing to see; that is, apart from the fact that we were far from the center, it was not worth staying in that city.

Worst internet
Here Vista del Pacífico wins again. In all the hotels in Costa Rica the internet was bad, but the one in this accommodation was the worst of the worst. They plugged in a small router that worked with a phone card, and it took hours to connect, when it connected it did not work and it disconnected again in minutes.
To top it off, as they gave us the key and disappeared, there was no one to ask for help.
Worst hygiene
The winner is without a doubt the Hostel La Posada de Santa Teresa. The room was half clean, but then they didn’t clean during our stay, so the little trash can was already overflowing.
The rest of the hostel was disgusting. The reception area hadn’t been cleaned for years and there was no chair or sofa you could sit on as it was all covered in cigarette ashes.
The shared kitchen was terrifying. Apart from the fact that it was never cleaned, it lacked urgent hygiene. They had a cat that kept rubbing itself all over the place and licking the water taps. After the first breakfast here, we got giardiasis.

Worst general experience
The winner of worst imaginable is Hostel La Posada. From the moment we arrived and were served by dirty Argentinian volunteers, I knew that staying here was not going to be pleasant.
Even though in Costa Rica smoking is prohibited almost everywhere, here there was no time when there weren’t people smoking and everything didn’t reek of cigarettes or marijuana.
In the room everything failed: the water, the light, the remote control of the television, etc. The Wi-Fi never worked, not even at the reception. The owners of the hostel were an Argentine and an Uruguayan who had no idea about anything and were unable to solve the problems. To make matters worse, the Uruguayan was always drugged.
From the first day we were wanting to go to the next destination. That was like a surreal show in which the abnormal ones were Diego and I because we cleaned up and dedicated ourselves to getting to know the place, instead of spending all day in the hostel smoking.
Words are not enough to describe how pathetic the accommodations were in this country, even paying a lot of money. There was nothing to save the stay from being catastrophic.
