Hi there,
After the disastrous experience at the Colivers Hotel, we made a two-day reservation at the Roosevelt Hotel and then decided where we would stay for the rest of our stay in Mexico City. One of the things that annoyed us the most is that we had to change the schedule again and use a day that was for tourism, to be looking for a hotel.
On this date things are complicated by the celebration of the Day of the Dead and just this year it coincided with Formula 1. Therefore, several hotels that we had signed up to see, in the morning they no longer had rooms.
We went to the Bristol Hotel and the girl at the reception treated us great. They showed us to the room and told us that there was no problem in storing the luggage.
Right next door we find the Cuauhtemoc market where from that day on, we always have breakfast and lunch.
The day we checked in, we asked for a room change because there were construction works in the back and there was a lot of noise. They moved us to another one that faced the front.
Then we had the WiFi problem. It worked terribly and they said they could move me back to be closer to the antenna. I didn’t feel like changing for the third time, especially since we had already got all the clothes out and organized.
I should have changed because I was sour every day about the lack of internet. It’s not that it was slow, it’s that it didn’t work at all. When we returned from Holbox, we directly asked for a room with the same quality and as close as possible to the antenna. There the internet worked perfectly.
Another thing I don’t like is that the whole hotel has carpet; and it makes me very sick because no matter how much you vacuum, it is the most unhygienic thing there is. Also, they are almost always spotted.
The Bristol Hotel pretends to be of a category that it no longer has. 50 years ago, when it was new, it sure was the best in Mexico City, but now it’s an old and tired hotel that doesn’t have more than 3 stars.
On top of everything, when you take a bath, it doesn’t drain well and the whole bathtub gets puddled. Good thing they clean daily because once you take a shower, the bathtub is disgusting.
In short, the best thing about this accommodation is the location and the attention of the reception staff. In addition, having a market next door to eat delicious and cheap. Perhaps if the WiFi had worked from day one, I would not have left such a bad review. The mattress and pillows are comfortable, but the hotel needs to be renovated urgently.
