Buena Suerte Bed&Breakfast in Cahuita

Hi there,

This hotel had already been mentioned in the post about the worst hotels in Costa Rica, but I think it was so mediocre that it deserves an exclusive post.

The owners of the hotel were two very bad looking Italians. Of those people who you think fled from justice in their country and went there because no one is going to find them. On top of that, they had brown teeth from smoking and long, grime-filled fingernails.

There you can imagine how the accommodation will be.

It cost us 30 euros per night with breakfast included.

Each room had an animal drawing on the door and the decoration of the room was of said animal. It was very ugly, it looked like a preschool.

We got the room with the little pig, which during the day was not so macabre, but at night it got much worse because there was only one light bulb on the ceiling. The bathroom looked like that of a prison since, in addition to being horrible, it had no natural lighting. Also, the floor tiles were half broken.

The furniture in the room was from 50 years ago. The sheets and towels were old and frayed.

The water heater was one of those that are attached to the pipe and made noise as if it were going to explode. Diego tried to turn it off, but it gave him an electric shock.

There was only one ceiling fan which was also excessively noisy; it was better to bear the heat and humidity.

At the entrance of the property there was a gloomy shared kitchen with practically no light. We used it a couple of times, but Diego cooked because I was disgusted and didn’t want to go in.

To top off the attributes of this place, the Wi-Fi was extremely slow.

The good thing was the breakfast that consisted of a plate in which they put a little of everything and it could be sweet or salty; although the cappuccino was not as good as I would have expected from two Italians.

Worst of all is the response they gave to my review. I gave them 4 stars (which is a lot) because I liked the attention of the owner and because he had had the courtesy of calling to reserve the boat with which we would go to Tortuguero. Although I put 4 stars, I listed all the good and bad things about the hotel, to which the owner responded very arrogantly asking “Where in the world would we stay in a hotel for that price and those qualities”? Following his response, I lowered the review score.
