The good and the bad hotel in Baja California Sur

Hi there,

When we were in Mexico for the first time, our penultimate destination was Baja California Sur. We had seen that it was going to be expensive because it has a lot of tourism from the United States.

We arrived at the San José airport, rented the car, and went to La Paz. We had only booked one night at the Pekín Hotel as we were arriving late and wanted to make sure we had somewhere to sleep; In addition, to leave the next day to another place if we did not like it.

The night cost 650 pesos when we had been paying between 200 and 300 pesos for rooms that were good. Downstairs was a Chinese restaurant, and everything smelled of frying, the smell reached the upper floors too.

We went up and the room was terrifying. The sheets were questionably clean, all the walls and furniture were stained, and the curtains were disgusting. The bathroom was even worse: questionable cleanliness, old and worn. The towels were pitiful, all frayed. The photos on the web did not correspond to reality.

That same night we looked for another hotel for the next day since we wouldn’t spend another night there.

We didn’t have breakfast included, but there was free coffee on one of the floors. The next morning, I went to see, and the table alone was disgusting. I served coffee to try it and, I threw it away because it was disgusting.

I was amazed to see a man walking barefoot through the halls. Good God, you couldn’t even be barefoot in the room.

The next day we left that horrible place that overflowed with dirt and we only spent one more night in La Paz.

We arrived in Cabo San Lucas with a one-night reservation at the Seven Crowns Hotel that seemed to have everything. The price was even cheaper than the one in La Paz (around 615 pesos per night) booking through booking.com. The prices that were seen at the reception exceeded 1000 pesos.

The room was perfect, and the bathroom was spacious and impeccable. When I took a shower, I spoke to the girl at the reception because the shower door did not close well, and water was coming out. She immediately changed our room.

They cleaned and changed sheets and towels daily. In addition, there was no lack of amenities (soap, shampoo and almond and avocado cream that smelled delicious). Imagine that I still remember those amenities.

The breakfast was a bit poor. It was not a buffet, they gave you a dish that you chose from several options.

The internet worked poorly in some rooms. In the first room there were no problems, but after they moved us, we had to go out onto the balcony to get the signal.

The location was also great for me because we were a 15-minute walk from the center. In Cabo San Lucas, the downtown area is ugly in my opinion and the beaches are covered with loungers and beach clubs, so you didn’t have nice places to walk either. For this reason, not being in the center was the best option.

What I value most is hospitality and here it was wonderful.

The hotels we found in La Paz were disgusting, but the one in Cabo San Lucas was almost perfect with wonderful hospitality.
