Hi there,
As I already mentioned in a past post, I thought that while we were in Spain, we would go to a different place every weekend. We were doing that until the coronavirus arrived.
When they began to relax the quarantine, I got a federated athlete certificate in case the police stopped us at some point when we went to the beach or the river.
Thus, we were each going to do their respective training sessions, me with a paddle board and Diego swimming.
The Tous Reservoir from Almussafes was 30 minutes away by car.
That morning it was cold for June. Just that day I left the wetsuit at home, so I got on the paddle board with my clothes on and was freezing to death halfway until the sun started to come up.
Diego wanted to go around the islands that are in the middle and when we arrived, I told him that it was too much to do just swimming. As almost always, I was right. We got to one of the islands and came back, and that was 3,000 meters.
We returned, put the board away, changed clothes, and did a short trekking route until we reached a shore that I had already seen from the board. As we brought lunch, we sat in a place that was ideal and without any people. We had lunch and I bathed for a while because I was getting scorched from the sun.
This site is typical for people who bike, hike and fish. You must arrive early if you want peace and quiet.
The Tous dam is in the municipalities of Tous and Millares, in the province of Valencia; reservoir to the river Júcar and Escalona. To tell you a little bit of history, the first Tous dam collapsed on the afternoon of October 20, 1982, due to the enormous flooding of the Júcar. Due to the loss of electrical current due to the heavy rain and the failure of the emergency generator set, the gates could not be opened, and the great flow of the river destroyed the dam, which caused the largest flood known in Spain, the Pantanada de Tous. From a viewpoint you can see the ruins of the old town of Tous. The current reservoir was completed in 1994.
This is another place that I recommend if you like sports and nature.
