Hi all,
We stayed in the Armação de Pêra area for a month and here I tell you about the routes we did in the area:
Route to Praia da Marinha
The first route was initially 14km and we walked 16km in total. From the accommodation to our right along the coastline. In one part you must go out onto the road to skirt a hotel.
Here we saw the famous hermitage that appears on all the billboards that promote Armação de Pêra and some beautiful and lonely dream beaches. We also saw some idyllic houses in the middle of nowhere, facing the sea and surrounded by nature. In fact, there was an abandoned one and it broke our hearts to see that wonderful house without anyone to enjoy it.
We did not swim on any beach because the water was still cold at that time and because we did not go with the idea of staying on a beach.
Another day we went further along the same path to see the Benagil Cave, but access is only by sea, so we planned to return at another time to arrive either with Kayak or swimming; hopefully, very early before the boats start to work.
Route through the interior
This was a circular route that we did one day when they came to clean the house since we had to be 3 hours away. It had its normal road parts, but most of the time we were walking in the middle of fields.
When I was taking pictures in one of the fields with the little flowers, a man came and told us that we were next to an almond tree and that we should take as many as we wanted. In fact, he grabbed a few and gave them to us. We fell in love with the man who couldn’t be more adorable. Imagine that when we were in Almeria (Spain), just for taking a picture of the almond trees, a woman went crazy and shouted, “that it had an owner.”
Route along the beach and golf course
One Saturday we did this 16km route which, as always, was more and we reached 20. We walked along the entire 5km beach line, on the opposite side of the first route, and then we skirted the golf course.
Another day we also went along the beach and went a little further. It is the part that is on the corner of what is our beach. There are some giant rocks where people usually go to take their picture. The day we went there was horrible weather. We tried to arrive the following Sunday and as soon as we left the house, it started to rain. As the third time is the charm, the following Wednesday we did the same route for the second time and since it was a perfect day, we took the photos.
As an area for hiking trails, it is not good since the only interesting thing is going to the hermitage area and you never really leave “civilization” (so to speak) as you always find a house, parking or hotel. It’s cute, but not too special or varied. You go along the beach line looking at the cliffs and the sea, just that route.
