Hi everybody,
We spent two months in the Olhos de Agua area and as always, we organized ourselves to tour as much as possible on weekends.
As I have already mentioned in other posts, as “digital nomads” what we do is normal life during the week and on weekends we take advantage to get to know everything that we can.
From Monday to Friday, we did a day of swimming and a day of running or walking (in my case). As for me the water was still too cold to put my head in, what I did was buy some flaps and a body board. So, Diego did his normal swimming routine, and I went with my board doing mostly legs.
Here is the route that Diego used to do (I did less distance):
On days when it was time to run or walk, Diego would go to the end of the 6km beach. As I still had plantar fasciitis, I walked.
When the tourists began to arrive, we began to get up earlier (6:30 am) to find the beach empty. It was wonderful how quiet there was. One of the days we went swimming we saw a group of dolphins pass by and we were crazy about such a spectacle of nature.
During the weekends we organized ourselves as in Armação de Pêra to do a hike on Saturday and then a relaxed beach day for Sunday.
The first thing we did was a route along the beach line to Praia dos Alemães (Albufeira) that was super entertaining.
We also toured the Falésia beach one day on the beach and another day we went through the mountains and returned along the beach.
Also, with the car we visited the most important cities of the Algarve and the areas that were further north, passing Armação de Pêra. I will tell you about them in future posts.
As we spent almost two months in Olhos de Agua, at one point we found that we had already toured the entire area. One weekend we walked for almost three hours to get to Praia dos Arrifes and another, we rented bicycles to go a little further and visit Praia Secreta.
These other beaches were a bit more of the same, but it’s okay to visit them if you have time to spare.
With the bicycle I did not have a pleasant experience because the first afternoon the rubber of mine exploded so the next day instead of leaving early, we had to wait for the agency to open to be able to change the bicycle at 9:30; so, we arrived at Praia Secreta when there were already people. Even so, we were able to take the photos well.
Also, the entire route was by road and the drivers are not at all respectful of cyclists and there is no bike lane. Finally, the agency did not give helmets and I was slower than normal because of the fear of having an accident. So, I don’t recommend Algarve as a good place to ride bikes.
These are the beaches that we visited from Olhos de Agua and as you can see, we covered almost everything. My favorite beaches are Falésia and Praia da Pedra dos Bicos.
Olhos de Agua is cool to live a normal life for a few months. For a long time, I would already lack leisure options such as gyms, mountains for hiking and routes without traffic for cycling.
