Hi everybody,
While in Playa del Carmen we rented a car, and we went to Valladolid to spend the weekend. We booked through booking.com as I was quite disgusted by Airbnb, and we chose Los Frailes Hotel because it looked like “a normal hotel” and it had breakfast included.
As we are vegan and after seeing that in Playa del Carmen there were almost no vegan options, we sent a message through the platform to make sure they had something we could eat. They replied that they would ask the chef and they no longer wrote to us. We didn’t insist because it is obvious to me that any hotel has at least cereals, vegetable milk and fruit. More considering that there are many people with different food intolerances.
The first night we were already bothered by the noise from the pool and at 7 in the morning the next day in the kitchen they put “the rancheras” at full volume.
This, from what I have seen in many reviews, is a problem throughout Yucatan because people who work in hospitality play the music at full volume at any time and do not care if they disturb the travelers.
We asked for a change of room, and they put us on the second floor; There you couldn’t hear the noises from the pool or the restaurant, but you could hear the washing machines.
When we went to breakfast, what they had were eggs and chorizo. They didn’t even have vegetable milk for us to eat cereals. In the end we ate fruit and that’s it. The coffee and juice were not fresh.
I went to complain to reception regarding breakfast and they said they would sort it out. The next morning, we ran into the same situation, and I had to complaint again because they were playing with us. There they gave us fruit and made us some vegan tacos.
In conclusion:
Pros
- The hotel was new and did not have the typical wear and tear of use.
- Had free parking.
Cons
- The service was terrible because if you took them out of what they did normally, there was no way they would understand.
- Terrible breakfast.
- Very noisy. In addition, if you chose a hotel with pool, you risk having children around making noise.
- The internet worked badly.
- Poor quality amenities.
- Expensive for the quality. We paid $45 per night.
In the following posts I am going to tell you about the reality of Playa del Carmen and the Mexican Caribbean in general.
