Now we have a tradition which is to travel somewhere for my birthday. It is a tradition that Diego created.
Initially we wanted to spend the weekend in Bristol because it was a place that we had pending and because I wanted to walk around the first world. But everything was very expensive.
The cheapest we found was Agadir and we booked two nights at the Hotel Allegro with breakfast included
We arrived at night and in the first room they gave us there was a loud music blast. At the reception they told us that the party would last until 23h, so we asked for change. The second room was dirty, and the table was full of food stains and ants. So, we asked for a second room change.
There I had an attack of disappointment and I told Diego to look for a flight to leave the next day, even if we lost the money, although later we decided to stay.
The room was not very clean, and the finishes were horrible. They had renovated it to give it a more modern look, but the qualities were terrible.
Here I summarize the good and the bad:
Good
- Buffet with enough variety.
- Good internet.
- Good location a few minutes’ walk from the beach.
- Comfortable bed.
Bad
- Poor cleaning.
- Terrible qualities of the renovation.
- Old hotel.
- Few vegan options in the buffet. They didn’t even have plant milk.
The first day we went to tour the city and in 3 hours we had seen everything. Agadir was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1960 and after its reconstruction, it became a landmark and is currently a summer destination as it is full of all-inclusive resorts.
When we visited everything was under construction and it was quite inconvenient because in many places there were no sidewalks.
I was wanting Moroccan culture and I didn’t find it. Agadir is as if you were not in Morocco. The call to prayer is not heard, the typical medina does not exist, you do not see restaurants with local food. Even in the hotel buffet they only had European standard food.
The first day we were looking for restaurants that had vegetarian options because none of them had vegan dishes. The two that we had seen in Google were closed and there were hardly any open.
In the end, we had to pay for the hotel’s all-inclusive because there was nowhere else to eat.
The second day we tried to reach one of the ends of the beach, but at one point they did not let us continue because that part was the property of the king.
In the afternoon we went up to the castle and it was a 2-hour walk for nothing because it was also closed and under construction.
I liked the atmosphere of Agadir beach, everything was full of locals playing soccer and doing sports. Just the opposite of what is seen on the beaches of Spain in summer.
From Agadir it is typical to do the Paradise Valley tour, but I ruled it out because from what I saw in the photos on social media, it didn’t seem like anything special. They charged between 25 and 30 euros per person.
I didn’t like Agadir and felt like I wasted my money. The hotel was ugly, the beach was nothing special and the city has nothing of cultural value.
